The original post on this subject has a date of April 12, which means
it's gone from my back e-mail and I can't reply to it directly. But
today I - finally!<g> - got to look at the notation and the video. And
from what I could tell, it's not any easier than shape notes, and indeed
might be more difficult for someone to learn who's got round note
training. With the shapes there are the different note heads, and the
relative pitch (it seems from my limited experience that if you've
learned notes by letter - A, B, C, etc. depending on their position on
the staff, it's difficult to set that aside and learn that, as Karen
Willard puts it, a fa is a fa is a fa), but otherwise the notation is
familiar to someone who's used to round notes. But with the Hummingbird
notation the only thing familiar is the staff (and, I take it, the clefs
and written directions) - the notes, bars, etc. are all completely
unfamiliar.

AFAIC the best thing that ever happened to written music is the shapes,
and I wish more people would give 'em a try. :)
