I don't recall that anyone has commented on the list about Robert Stoddard's new typeset draft of the Supplement to the Kentucky Harmony, but I hope that you all are perusing it in silent enjoyment.  Although not without some first-draft issues, it by & large seems cleanly set, legible, & concise.

You'll find some variants on familiar tunes as well as some hymn-tune pairings which were new & interesting to me ("When I can read my title clear" to "Dunlap's Creek," for example).  Variants provide an interesting perspective on the original tune, & I believe that the contrasting pairings, wherever they appear, illuminate both the verses & the tunes.

When you are handed clean, new typeset like this, singing right from the page at first effort generally is straightforward.  That said, the original 19th Century pages, with their blots & typos & ill-placed verses, are a useful reminder of one thing worth remembering:  pulling a song off the pages of an old book like the SKH & making it live vocally is a labor which reminds how much people treasured singing from these books.

That said, this typeset promises many delightful experiences -- singing from this will be a wonder.  Thanks, Bob & Berkley, et al. for making this possible.

I agree. I have looked at these settings and they are very nicely done.

Davisson's SKY is a GREAT collection !!

this is cool news, indeed.

Except the actual news is missing:  where's the link / source?
where / how can we "peruse" these singing treasures?

Looking forward to learning and seeing more ...

Thanks !

 Oy.  Apologies.

The original link was in Robert Stoddard's 1/11/2010 e-mail, which led with a link to a recording of the Alabama State.  It's understandable that the wonderful Alabama State took precedent, but not good that the new-set Supplement to the Kentucky Harmony was left in the shade.  I will paste the relevant SKH link below:

Robert,  the lesson seems to be:  one topic per post.

And in violation of my advice one paragraph up to Robert (consistency is not necessarily a virtue), I will point out that the BostonSings website contains links to some other cool scores -- Supply Belcher, amongst others.  Run, don't walk.    Check 'em out.

Thanks, Gabriel, for calling me out.  (Lark Ascending to you ..... " :)
