Singing school reminder and parking

Hope to see you all at the singing school! Remember that tomorrow is Cal Day, so parking will be limited. Please take transit or carpool and allow plenty of time to find parking. (The good news is that the 2-hour zone around All Saint's does not apply on weekends, so you should be fine to park there for the entirety of the singing school. Check the signs to be sure.)

Saturday afternoon, April 21, 2012, 1-4 pm
Traditional Sacred Harp singing school, with singing master Cassie Allen. Beginners welcome, and loaner books will be available. $5-10 suggested donation; nobody turned away.

The singing school will be held at All Saints Chapel in Berkeley, CA. The address is 2451 Ridge Rd, Berkeley, CA. To get to All Saints' by public transit, take BART to the Downtown Berkeley stop and walk north on Shattuck Ave. Turn right on University Ave (3-4 blocks from BART, depending on the station exit used). Walk for one block and turn left on Oxford. Walk for one block on Oxford, and turn right on Hearst. At the first light, bear left (not a hard left - it's a bizarre intersection) onto Le Conte Ave (straight uphill). At the top of the hill, bear right onto Ridge Rd. The chapel is around the bend, on your left.

Cassie Allen is a lifelong Sacred Harp singer whose family has been singing in the southeast for generations. She has taught many singing schools, as well as classes at Camp Fasola. Cassie plans on teaching about Sacred Harp history, the rudiments of singing, and leading.

An informal social will be held Saturday at the house of a local singer, following the singing school. Details will be announced at the singing school.
