  Thank you Jane and Burkie for your comments Although difficult to obtain numbers it is known that horses from Poland Rumania and Spain are imported into France for the meat trade.   Testing can give a very misleading picture of how the disease is spreading, false negatives being the problem as was experienced in 2001. Swine 'Flu - Clinical Diagnosis - Over The Phone!! 
  At least one lesson seems to have been learned in 2001, testing is woefully inaccurate and spread of an epidemic is better monitored by clinical diagnosis. Bill.
