Hi everyone,
In response to Kate's great enthusiasm for the idea of a food
processing group, I'm taking her suggestion and scheduling a brief
meeting this Weds. 10/8 at 5 p.m. in the same location ("The Garage",
next to Emy J's) as the later meeting for Sustain Central Wisc. and
its writer's group.

This would be one of those meetings as in the "Dilbert" cartoon strip,
you know, plan a meeting to plan the meeting. We'll just briefly talk
about how to invite a number of possible "stakeholders" in a possible
food processing venture, to a meeting to be held in November at an
undisclosed location. For reference there is the proposal that i put
in the "Files" section of this group, one possible approach to discuss
in Nov.

Anyone welcome, and you don't have to be a part of the later
meeting(s) taking place in that location. Nor do you have to commit
to being any part of the future food processing project--only if you
have an interest in getting the ball rolling.

Due to the time constraint, we'll need to take no more than 45
minutes; that is, wrap it up by 5:45 p.m. so the next group can claim
the space which they have reserved for a meeting. I am willing to
facilitate this process until a coup becomes necessary...

Bobby,

I think this is a great idea that you have started and would like to
support it. I will not be able to attend on Wed though. Also know that
I am looking into contracting a facilitator from Cooperative
Development Services in Madison to work with local farmers to get more
of these type of initiatives off the ground. This was brought up at
the recent meeting and I am looking into costs and farmer interest at
the moment. I will post more about this soon.

Cheers,
Nick

Nick, good idea.

I spoke real briefly with Tony from Whitefeather at the Square
recently and i mentioned this idea. His first response was that he
would like to see something like this get started as a co-operative.

We really like the idea of projects like this. We would like to havea  cooperative processing facility here in the Athens Area which would have a dairy license as well. We are trying to think about having cooperative winter CSAs that include meat, cheese etc. We would like to be kept in the loop but we are very overcommited as usual.

I can't make the 5pm meeting tomorrow although I am very interested in
this project. Looking forward to hearing what was discussed.
