Greetings,

I have a user who cannot edit their own profile. I've had a look through the
permissions and I can't work out which one I need to be able to edit the
profile. Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Phil

Permissions: farUser Edit / dmProfile edit
Webskins: farUser.edit* / dmProfile.edit*

Also you might only allow them to their own stuff by limiting the
webskins to only allow the editOwn skins from farUser / dmProfile.

I don't seem to have the permissions you mentioned in my permissions list.
Could that be causing the problems?

To debug permission issues, you should start by comparing the permissions of a role that CAN do what you want with the one that can't. Somewhere in those differences is the problem. If nothing jumps out at you, post them here.

Indeed best way is to compare to existing role that can do the stuff
you need, if you changed it all then use a fresh install to check on
that (been there). I suggest you try those mentioned permissions i
stated above, this is how i created a custom role for shop customers
that only should have a few permissions including editing their own
profile, it works!

I've done a query to find out what rights a Contributor (who can edit their
own profile) has that my new User Group does not have. I went through the
list to remove the Event, Fact, Link and News permissions and was left with:

> TreeSendToTrash
> ObjectOverviewTab
> ObjectAuditTab
> Generic Create
> Generic Edit
> ObjectEditTab
> Generic RequestApproval
> ObjectStatsTab
> ObjectArchiveTab
>

Looking at this list, I have no clue how to edit my own profile. And I don't
have the permissions the Marco mentions. A complete reinstall would be
pointless, not least because if it didn't come with these permissions when I
first installed it, why would they suddenly appear the second time, and the
project is now live so a reinstall would be extremely complex.

Generic Edit may be in play. It is used to control edit access to content types through objectadmin, but may also be in effect when editing your own profile.

And there was me thinking Generic Edit would open up everything for them to
edit! Dammit, another obvious fix that was oblivious to me :(
