I wonder by that definition, who is actually doing computer science?
To what extent you agree/disagree with him? Does your research totally
reply on the physical computer sitting on the desks?

我觉得这不是"definition" 吧，只是Dijkstra对CS的看法和认识。
这个当然是牛人了，求路径的Dijkstra算法就是以他名字命名的。
CS我理解就是数学，只不过用电脑作为工具来计算。呵呵。

最难的部分是，一个问题出来，知道怎么去计算（用什么方法解决），所谓的算法。 - 这也不是定义哦，我瞎说的。

基本同意。计算机科学包含很大部分的数学理论（特别是离散数学）和数据结构与算法内容。与此对比，一般的软件项目开发只能算是“软件工程”的内容吧。

刚好我以前的专业名称叫【Department of Computer Science and Mathematical Informatics】
其实专业名称里面前面加的那个“Computer Science” 根本是拿来骗人的～

Mathematics 才是主修方向。

计算机只是数学里面一个很窄的范畴而已。
