Hi there,

I'm trying to figure out the camera distance in cm from the face. This
is a ratio of the largest value of the bounding box, which I cannot
find in FaceGen. Is there anywhere I can find this info?

To get around this problem I exported the face to Maya and checked the
bounding box size there. This gave me a value of approx 28cm for the
height (largest value). Does exporting to Maya change the bounding box
size or can I trust that to be correct?

Thanks in advance,

Raj.

Hi Raj,

FaceGen does not give you absolute size. Our shape statistics are all
relative.

You just scale the faces exported from FaceGen to whatever size or
units you wish.

Hi Guru,

Thanks very much for your response.

I'm a novice and know nothing about bounding boxes so I just have one
follow up question:

Can you confirm that the bounding box size maintains its size relative
to the head when exported as a .ma file? Is the bounding box size a
part of the info provided by FaceGen with the head or will Maya create
its own (perhaps different) bounding box for the imported object?

Many thanks,

Raj.

The bounding box will vary according to the specific head.

It won't vary much, since FaceGen doesn't change the overall size of the head, but the shape of the head does change - taller and skinnier versus shorter and wider for instance.

If what you're after is a fixed view, then don't use the bounding box to set your view, just use a fixed camera setting.

Best wishes,
