Second Announcement: European Forum for the Study of Religion and Environment: May 21-24th 2011, University of Chester, UK
ANIMALS AS RELIGIOUS SUBJECTS: A TRANSDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE.
Short papers are invited around the theme of Animals as Religious Subjects. The first public lecture will be at Chester University (www.chester.ac.uk<http://www.chester.ac.uk>) on Saturday 21st May. The remainder of the conference will be held at St Deiniol’s residential library www.st-deiniols.com<http://www.st-deiniols.com> in Hawarden.
Papers are invited from a range of disciplines, including but not limited to aesthetic, anthropological, archaeological, ethical, historical, natural scientific, philosophical, sociological, theological, and zoological perspectives.
While the keynote papers will be presented in English, those wishing to present in another language may do so, but the ABSTRACT submitted needs to be in English.
Please let the committee know which language you intend to present your paper.
Short papers will be limited to 20 mins duration with 10 mins discussion.
Abstracts should be 350 words maximum with a clear title and summary of arguments to be used.
Deadline for Submission of Abstracts: On or before January 10th 2011.

Notification of acceptance of papers will be announced by February 14th 2011.
Costs of Conference and Residential Arrangements
Please note the following costs and deadlines for registration:
1. Costs for conference: £100 registration fee; £60 for students.
2. Daily rate £50 Lunch only for Sunday to Tuesday, £30 students; Daily rate for Saturday only £25, £15 students.
3. Daily rate £65 including dinner; £40 students.
4. Full board with accommodation for three nights at St Deiniol' library/local bed and breakfast £250 to be paid in advance. (Note, total cost with Registration fee is £350).
5. Full board at library, for registered students only £200 (note, total cost with registration fee £260).
6. Supplement to stay in St. David’s Hotel, £20 per night for shared room, £60 per night for single room.
Registration before March 15th 2011: £100, £60 students
Registration after March 15th 2011: £150; £100 students.
If conference accommodation is desired, this should be paid for at the same time as the registration fee. There is a cap on the number of delegates we can accommodate, so early booking is recommended.
Registration fee includes :
1. Visit to Chester Zoo on Saturday early afternoon prior to first key lecture, including transport by minibus from Chester University.
2. Transport by minibus from Chester University to St Deiniol's library on Saturday 21st May after the keynote lecture only; and return after the end of the conference.
There will be an opportunity on the website registration page to confirm your interest in using this transport.
3. Copy of the book Religion and Ecology in the Public Sphere edited by Celia Deane-Drummond and Heinrich Bedford Strohm.
This book emerged from the EFSRE conference in Abo, Finland in May 2009. The publication date and launch is planned to coincide with May 2011 conference.
The process to allow registration and payment details will be uploaded onto the University of Chester website over the summer period. A further
announcement will be made when this is live.
Please register as early as possible in order to avoid disappointment as accommodation is allocated on a first come first serve basis.
