Eyes-free Keyboard no longer handling arrowing?

I signed up to take meeting minutes on my phone recently, recalling that
the eyes-free keyboard used to provide spoken feedback when arrowing
around. Under Android 2.3 on an HTC G2 running CyanogenMod 7.1, I was
unable to get arrowing around to work any longer when typing on a
bluetooth keyboard. Similarly, using the trackpad to arrow around didn't
work either.

Am I remembering correctly in thinking that this functionality once worked?

Is it being phased out of the eyes-free keyboard in favor of using
TYPE_TEXT_SELECTION_CHANGED events in ICS?

And does this mean that legacy users are screwed? I understand not
writing new code to support legacy Android versions, but it seems across
the board like Google is removing working code and leaving 2.3 users
behind (witness, for instance, Places not supporting keyboard access
when it once did.) Or should the eyes-free keyboard have a minimum API
level set such that 2.3 users stick with the version shipped with TalkBack?

Hi. Arrows still work with the eyes-free keyboard included in talkback. They don't work with the stand alone eyes-free keyboard. I've decided to uncheck automatic updates for talkback to prevent an upgrade from breaking access in android 2.3. I did this after reading a post to the list from a google dev suggesting eyes-free keyboard would be removed from talkback in a future release.
