Google Apps Script migration from Excel VBA

I'm working on converting a project over to Google Apps Script. 

Anybody have any knowledge of how to create the equivalent of an Excel Shape using scripting in a Google Docs Spreadsheet? I have a few hacks in mind but they are very messy. 

Any help appreciated.
