Hello,

I'd like to know if it is possible to set Exaile as default music
player, and of course how could one do that.
I'm using Linux Mint 11 (Katya) Gnome.

I tried to set it from Preferred Applications but Exaile is not among
options there. I also went to Home Folder, Edit, Preferences and I set
Exaile to be the default CD and Audio application.

What i'd like to be able to do is Play/Pause Next/Previous from
hardware keys but since I can't make Exaile as default, this is not
possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

In this windows select Personalized and write "exaile" (without qoutes) below.

Hello Cphus,
I can't give you exact information on how to set up your system as I'm
using Xfce4; but for all I know you don't need to set Exaile to your
default music player to use your media keys in combination.
With me it works fine to assign some commands to the desired keys.
Exaile provides some command line options for controlling itself.
Please refer to the man page of exaile for details:
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/lucid/man1/exaile.1.html

Best regards!

As Ricardo said, you should just be able to use a custom entry here.

Being the default app has nothing at all to do with being able to use hardware keys. Enable the "GNOME Multimedia Keys" plugin in Exaile and your keys should work automatically. (As long as GNOME has them set up properly - you can edit them in GNOME's keyboard control panel.

Thank all for the answers,

Yes, it works (as Aren Olson said) by simply enabling a plugin in the
Preferences Menu. There are two plug-ins which do the job: GNOME
Multimedia Keys and XKeys. Both of them work fine(sepparately, of
course. Hint: it's better to quit and restart Exaile after switching
[say] from one to the other; otherwise, Next and Previous will jump
more than one track).
