It's great to see a discussion starting about where the next EFA gathering might be held. There are so many interesting possibilities, and certainly St. Louis is among them. But what it always finally comes down to is who is willing and able to take responsibility for organizing the gathering. It is not essential that the principle organizer live in the host community, but that has typically been the case. There have been gatherings organized by a "committee" (though perhaps I should say 'a cadre of stalwarts'), but even in such cases, there has been a "spark plug." For me, the question is not so much where the gathering should be, but rather, "Who will be the spark plug?

Just to add:  I have been advocating for over a year now that we have a Gathering at Grandfather Mountain in NC.  I have made contact with the folks there, and since I live barely 2 hrs. away, I can be the liaison for administering the event (I do have experience in this sort of thing).  I am hopeful that we can at least have a presence there next summer, but a Gathering the following year would be most desirable.  Although it doesn't have any special Ewing connection, it is a well known location (even in Scotland) for Highland Games and a Gathering of the Clans in general; so it would be especially nice to have a Ewing presence among all the familiar Camerons, Buchanans, Stewarts, MacNeils, et al.  Because of its popularity, it is necessary to book hotel space way in advance.  Please consider.
