Dear Friends,

Here's a question about the purpose and scope of the EFA.  Some folks have mentioned the topic along the way, but I am not aware of any deep thinking that has been widely shared.  Our website does not deal with the issue.

The question is whether and how much does the EFA want to entertain historical and genealogical work (and documentation in the Journal) of family histories and genealogies of families who are not born with the Ewing surname, but who are married into a Ewing family?

Most of us have a "Grandpa Ewing".  (Or a Grandma Smith who was born Ewing.) Grandpa would (in most but not quite all cases!) have married someone from an unrelated family.  As a genetic democrat, I am equally interested in my maternal (non-Ewing) lines, but I realize that few other present-day Ewing families will share those lines with me.  Should I think of publishing their information in our Journal?

I don't have a position except to suggest that we don't want to dilute the "Ewing content" of the Journal.  (Not that anyone does!)  To some extent, the EFA and the Journal, exist to give EFA members a chance to tell their own stories, including the historical and genealogical studies they've done, even when they wander beyond the tribal boundaries.

The immediate chore I face as webmaster is trying to edit or redraft some of the introductory text that explains the purpose and scope of EFA.  If anyone has a concise way to describe our interest in Intermarried Families, I'm all ears!

Regards,
