NUDGE-NUDGE: BE SURE YOUR CAMP COLLABORATORS ORDER THEIR TICKETS EARLY

This message is for those of you who might still be working on your plans for Burning Man 2011, and who haven't yet acquired your tickets for Rites of Passage; we wanted to remind our team about the ticket-related message we are sure that you saw in JRS V15:#10, sent out on March 24.

We're reposting the message here now as a reminder just to you, our core folks -- you especially should have this information as early as possible in the planning season. Not much has changed internally since the JRS message was released, but we thought it was a good reminder for all of us as planning season begins in earnest. 135 days!

From the JRS:

"..ticket sales are brisk!  Old and new friends alike are announcing their intentions, registering projects, signing up to volunteer...heck, there are almost 200,000 of you Liking Burning Man on Facebook! And yes, tickets are moving quicker than they ever have before.

Wheee, right? Sure, it’s exciting and inspiring, and we're certainly happy for our friends who might have had to sit it out in '09 or '10.... but let's face it: it's important to be careful about how the event grows. The rate of ticket sales affects not only infrastructure and population, but has more nuanced implications to newbie acculturation, community intimacy, and an overall cultural balance.

For whatever reason, early interest this year is like never before, and since we don't do proactive PR, it's hard to say why the spike in interest, or what it means for overall ticket sales for 2011. But we've stated that the final tiers are not unlimited but are "while supplies last" and we are reminding you of that now-- and if we *were* to reach a point of limiting tickets, it would have big implications in such an intensely participatory culture. To be sure, we don't want anyone left out in the cold.

That's why y'all JRS readers, our core community of peeps, will be first to hear about changes and updates to ticket availability.  Keep your eyes peeled here! No changes are planned just yet, but we will say that as things look today, if you're on the fence (you know what we mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6WAi0ssLGs) then this is your official hint that it would be wise to begin considering which side of the fence you and your co-conspirators plan to come down on in the end.

And hey, perhaps we all want to make a pact to ease up just a wee bit on the telling everyone we meet that they 'just HAVE to go to Burning Man!!!!' ...wait, wait, ok, maybe not that drastic -- you always bring such nice friends. But geez, 200,000 Likes is, like, a lot of Likes.

Rites of Passage here we come!"

UPDATE ON YEAR-ROUND BRC STORAGE

Last month we announced a new storage option for Black Rock City projects, intended to help our participants, artists and theme camps with storage near the event.  The response has been wonderful, and we are enjoying hearing stories from the community.  The realization that participants can avoid shipping infrastructure to their camp every year has been eye opening.  In summary, we are offering participants the opportunity to purchase a 20 foot shipping container.  Your container will be delivered to the event each year.
We have had a great response, and we may need to cut off sign up around June 15th (or while supplies last).
One camp reserved two containers - yes, you can submit multiple applications if you need more than one container.

Here is some additional information based on feedback and questions asked since the first announcement:

o       Is the container purchase and delivery service for placed theme camps only?  No, any individual or group that attends Burning Man can take advantage of this service.  Volunteers       have also discussed organizing a shared container.  The FAQ describes how we will work with non-placed camps, in the event that there is no specific "placement" option.  Please      read the updated FAQ for more information.

o       Remember Theme Camp and Department Placement Questionnaires are Due April 28th.  Consider incorporating the 20'x8'x8' container in your camp diagram.  Even if you haven't      put in your final order for the container, camps are still allocating a space for them in their plans.

o       Can I build out the inside of the container?  So far we have heard of camps planning to bring extra wood this year and build out shelving inside.  Once emptied, you can also use               them as a wind block, or anchor points for your camp.  Just remember, don't drill or alter them structurally as they water and wind tight.  Consider creating a wooden substructure             inside that doesn't require drilling the container.

o       What are the dimensions and specs?  External Dimensions = 20’x8’6.  Internal Dimensions =19’3 length, 7’4 height.  Floor area = 150 sq ft.  Door opening width = 7’8.  Door                   opening height = 7’1.  Weight = 4650 lbs.

o       Are there still containers left?  If the signup form is still online, you can still apply and get in the queue.
