An experimental play on themes we have been discussing

Dear All A Tamil Literature Reading group Aarangal Kannada Theatre group Halukuriki Theatre present a Tamil (but will communicate beyond language) experimental play Soorpanangu Performed by a serious theater group from down south, Tamil nadu. Manal Magudi Date: Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 6.30pm, Venue: Raveendra Kalakshetra, J.C Road, Bangalore. “There was a mass burial of woman. We are insects. We created ourselves from those buried bones. The bones that hold in them, bonds of motherhood. We understand and relate when there is hunger and pain. We understand what it means when birds do not have nests” – translation from the play. The play is anchored on the legend of legend of “Nalla Thangal”, a mother of 7 children who killed herself and her children during the period of extreme drought and starvation 300 hundred years ago . Director : S. Muruga Bhoopathi : Bhoopathi is the grandson of the famous lyricist and theatre personality Madhurakavi Bhaskaradas. One of his earlier plays ‘Semmuthai’ was selected for the National Theatre Festival. Your presence will be the most important thing for the group which is traveling 800 kilometers for the performance. Costs are being shared by individuals, so any support to sell tickets  will be very useful.
