Well, I am going to begin to use ETM for trial work. It works great for calendaring events. It works great for keeping time. It works great for reminding me that this or that task needs to be accomplished. And, from what I have read, it will also work to keep track of my trial "to dos." Not too such what terminology applies here.
I plan to first use it to help with pre-trial preparation issues. When I sue someone and that someone answers, a carpet of dates rolls out, automatically provided by state, federal or local rules. They are are the same for each court. This or that has to be done within so many days of the responsive pleading. That has to be done within so many days before the early case conference. There is a date which is the triggering event, and then the other dates follow. Once the triggering event-date is established, many of the other dates can be populated automatically.
I have not used ETM for this task to date. And I suspect the learning curve is significant. But, at least until the bar develops the courage to shut them down, there needs to be some inexpensive way to deal with the idiosyncrasies (local rules) of our judiciary. Wish me luck.
