I feel a little like Les Nessman when he said, “I swear to GOD – I thought turkeys could fly!” after the tragic WKRP in Cincinnati turkey drop.

I sweat to GOD, I thought my 340 oil pan would bolt onto my 360 engine!  I looked it up on the Schumacher motor mount site & they confirmed that NO 340 & 360 oil pans are interchangeable……oh well!

Schumacher says I need a ‘low profile center sump 360 oil pan’ for my Barracuda (with Schumacher /6 to V-8 conversion motor mounts) to clear the center link. I’ve looked all over the internet & have seen nothing referring to a ‘low profile center sump pan’. I’m starting to think that ALL standard 360 center sump pans are low profile & they’re just trying to say, “Don’t use a DEEP center sump 360 oil pan.” I’m needing to buy an oil pan. I want to get the right one!

Thanks,

Mark

Yuuuup. The 360 has a smaller rear oil seal and everyone I have seen is the same shape.for a car center sump but stay away from the chrome jobs. Many do not fit smelling or high performance oil pumps unless you bolt them up without a gasket and beat on then with a rubber mallet around the pump.area to clearance them.

While we're on the oil pan debate, has anyone replaced a slanty oil pan gasket in the car? I had an awful time with mine and it still leaks... It seems like a terrible design from the gasket makers' part. The rear section of the seal is supposed to go up and into a strange shape, but naturally, they didn't make it like that. I got it semi-glued in place and put the pan up... And well, obviously it didn't work. Anybody else have this happen? Is there a company out there that makes a better version? This was a Fel-Pro. I replaced one out of the car(well in this case, truck) about two years ago and had no problems... Any thoughts?

Most generally speaking, I have had better luck with Victor gaskets than Fel-pro....
They can be a little harder to find though...
Good luck,

Hey guys, just my 2 centavos but is this a case like with the next generation A-bodies where the centerlink for V-8's has a "dip" in them and slant cars don"t? If that's the case maybe to avoid changing over that stuff the schumacher people say that you need the low profile pan.  Just wondering. I have a dipped centerlink in my cellar waiting for my needing to switch 8 for 6 for years because of this but this was in a 71 Dart.  Sory if I'm just wasting space here but just once I'd like to be of help to someone else instead of only mooching info from you guys. lol  Clark

The only "A" bodies that need a center link change, when converting from a slant six to a V-8 are:
1964, most 65, hardly any 66's and none 67 or later. Mopar started to phase out the six cyl center link during 1965. Most 66 cars did not require the swap. No 67 and later require a swap.

no you still need the drop center link unless your engine sits pretty high.

Chad,
I hope that it is not the rear main seal on your /6. I have never changed one in the car.

Good luck my friend, and a big thanx to Reed for the link yo Victor-Reinz.

Brion,

I'm pretty sure it's not the rear main... Wouldn't that be the seal at the back of the crankshaft, rather than the pan? Either way, I think it's much easier with the engine out. Thanks for the help guys!
