Hello All!

I know this has been asked several times but I don’t remember reading an answer.

Has anyone been able to find a replacement for the under dash vent tubing/flexible

hose?

v/r,

Hi Matt;
I have not been able to find the correct hose as it is 2" inches at the heater outlet and 2.5" at the defroster. I bought hoses from laysons which I sent back because of the improper fit. I recovered the original hose with duct tape and all is better now.
If you find a vendor for the correct hoses; please let me know.
Regards,
Brion

I would think we could use a piece of ABS (black) plastic to bush out the fitting at the heater outlet to 2-1/2", then use a straight piece 2-1/2" hose.

Actually, we could probably wrap duct tape around the 2" fitting until the 2-1/2" hose is a snug enough fit to clamp.

If you wanted to make it prettier, you could do a 2" ell at the bottom and bring it up (so it's more hidden) then increase it to 2-1/2".

Anybody tried this?

OK, OK, I know it ain't original, but the smoothness of the hard plastic pipe would have less friction and might give a little more air to the defroster.

I'm pretty sure that hose is being reproduced, I've seen it on eBay along with the vents.  It has different diameters on each end.

I decided to just get different size hoses and put the big one over the small ones. I figure I can take up the difference with a piece of foam and snug it with a zip tie. Haven't done it yet, but that's the plan.

Here's the problem. The dash vents have a 2 1/2 inch od for the hose. The heater case has 1 outlet at 2 inch, and one at 2 1/4. The factory hoses each had a 2 1/2 end with a clamp, and the other end the smaller size to fit each case outlet. The "dual" diameter hoses are not available. I make my own adapters for the dash vents, from plumbing PVC. I epoxie a short piece insde the vent. At the heater case I make a "ring" from a split piece of the same PVC for the 2 inch outlet. Then I use Dorman flex hose #96003 2 1/4 dia by 72 inches long.

If someons has seen the hoses with different size ends please post a link. I have been trying to find it, without results. All I have been able to find is the Vents, and a hose "kit" which has the 2 1/2 dia hose, and adapters that go on the heater case. I really would like to know if any one has been able to put those adapters on the case, and put two 2 1/2 inch dia hoses on them side by side. I tried and couldn't.

Is it possible to use 2" hose and insert it into the vent rather than over the out side?

Charlie,

It is my understanding that these hoses offered on eBay are the correct dimensions.  Here is the item #:

380338129214

Having said that, the ad is not clear, so I sent them an email requesting a confirmation of the diameters.  I'll report back when I hear from  them.

They also offer the vents, item#:

120418391463

I have my dash out, and confirmed the dimensions you show in your email.  I too, need to get the proper hoses.

That's what I did MANY years ago.  A little duck tape wrapped around the vent holds the hose in place.

(By the way, yes "duck" tape.  As I understand it, the Navy came up with this tape many years ago to make a waterproof seal, hence calling it "duck" tape.  See: http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/duckvsduct.html )
