City Council meetings are open to the public, right? Where, when?

I'm not sure if your question is rhetorical, but it appears to be. On a
related subject, a couple of years ago i called the register guard to
request that they publish meeting times/dates a couple of days ahead of
time, since their policy was to publish, for some meetings, on
the same date the meeting occurred. Often these meetings were at 7:30
a.m., so in effect the meeting was over by the time a lot of people
opened up the newspaper. I also wrote the rg a letter requesting they
change this policy. They refused to change this, even though they are
the only source of this info for the public, unless you call the city and
specifically request them to put you on the mailing list for certain
meetings.

The lame reasons given were 1) "there is limited space in the calendar
section, so we can't include more meetings." When i pointed out that
they could simply move the entire schedule back a couple of days, thereby
using the same amount of space, the second reason was, 2) "that's our
policy and we see no reason to change it."

I have not attended or looked at this calendar for some time, so i don't
know if this policy is still in effect. But it would be worth checking.
