Hello,

ether is up'n'running ;-) - but I've some trouble installing WinXP
SP2.
The installation starts but freezes immediately when windows asks the
user to supply extra raid drivers (Press F6 to...) - I'm able to VNC
to the guest, but no matter what a I do (pressing F5 / F6 / Enter,
etc.) - The system shows no sign of activity.

Do you know what might be wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Henrik

The above problem has been reported by a number of individuals using
Ether. The current workaround is to create new guests using unpatched
versions of Xen.

I have done a couple of tests on this. I have two sets of results, one is an Ether patched Xen installation and the other is the plain 3.1.0 Xen install. Plain Xen works fine, however the Ether Xen does not work (as reported).

This is the only discernible difference. It is found in the /var/log/xen/qemu-dm.XXXX.log file

xs_write(/vm/8ed8495b-41e9-808f-2cd1-100557029994/rtc/timeoffset, rtc/timeoffset): write error

It seems to be a common error with other versions of Xen. I'm trying to track it down now.

Judging by the error I would say take a look at the RDTSC and clock handling. Maybe keep the original timing code to see if it fixes the issue?

Are you talking about the VMEXIT RDTSC code in xen/arch/x86/hvm/vmx/vmx.c?

vmx_set_tsc_offset in vmx.c and hvm_get_guest_time in hvm.c

thanks for you help - I'm using a guest created by VirtualBox and
everything is fine now.

Henrik
