Just the same here. I got yours from albasani, which I have Agent

Haven't seen any problems here, and all three of the dns servers
are responding quickly.

E-S was working for me when others were reporting problems, I guessed my
local DNS cache was helping (took a note of the IP address) later my
cache expired and I lost access, temporarily connected via the IP
address and that way it still worked, all back to normal now ...

Can't even ping the website, or at least couldn't last night for quite
some time. Very curious.

I'll go along with Bob, I never saw an outage here in Dallas TX.
I have installed bind on my linux box, and have forwarders set to
OpenDns servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Well, no. Either ES was up, or it was down for the entire Net.
It is quite possible that some intermediary between you and ES had a
problem.

I am in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, and I had no problem
yesterday.

You are mistaken about the length of time. I saw it down for about a half-
hour yesterday afternoon -- and I am near the East Coast.

Northern Rockies too, though from something like 9 or 10 am local time,

Nothing out of the ordinary here, on this part of the east coast.
Been having problems with my service provider's connection but that has been
delt with. It turned out to be some outdated wiring now that they have gone
to an all digital format.

Now I can do my three hour show on saturday and not have to worry about a
faulty connection. :-)

I have albasani.net set up to read the same group on ES And it worked
fine. from the time I said I couldn't get in and last tried My
Newsreader would sit and grind away looking for ES and in fact lock up
after so long a time wouldn't release and I would have to Force Quit the
application to get out.

It's probably not geographic. This is the Internet, so things are
usually related to network connectivity.

What was probably relevant was when the relevant DNS records timed out
of your DNS server's cache.

There was a transient problem with the DNS server, while the news
servers were working properly all the time. Depending on the
respective cache refresh intervals, this problem affected users' DNS
servers and hence their connectivity to E-S in different ways at
different times with different durations.
