Has anyone got Opera to work with this ridiculous system?

What is the point of setting up such a preposterous system? Look at all
the inane questions (I'm one of them) - because the original design is so
flawed. This is needless and shows very poor judgment from the
designer. Time to reconsider a different system! Unless you want to
waste untold amounts of unnecessary time in answering the same questions
over and over. For productive people - its sheer stupidity.

Yes, I agree.
Anyone incapable of configuring their news-reader with their self-appointed credentials
should get no newsgroups whatsoever. Not even this one!

Self appointed? I had problems when I first set-up this system as the
password was generated by them (NOT the one I had crafted) and was sent
to me in an e-mail. I did not know this and couldn't log in.

you don't seem to be using Opera, either, so how's your posting related
to the thread you posted it in?

And while I have your attention:

,----------------------------------------------------------
| Domain Name: 2.COM
| Registrar: RESERVED-INTERNET ASSIGNED NUMBERS AUTHORITY
`----------------------------------------------------------

Are you sure you are entitled to use that domain in your mail address?

I didn't say anything about Opera . The first post I replied to was
stating that user name /password for eternal-September was
self-appointed wheras in my case the password was eternal-september
generated.

Almost certainly not, I shall change it seeing as it annoys you so much

The thread was about Opera.

.invalid is the top-level domain to use, not .com.

So [anything].invalid is fine. If it's a .com, assume it's registered.

Yes but, I have it ingrained into me to use a munged e-mail addy.
And I guess a completely useless addy is the ultimate mung.
Could use cheesesoup@<REMOVE>hotmail.com I suppose.

BTW, Hello back. You can't see but I am frantically waving here

As I expect I have said here before I have only ever used my real name
and one valid address for all purposes for the last seventeen years. No
harm or threat of harm has ever come my way.

Downside is when someone dreams up that "useless addy" :(

Feel free to use so...@nomail.afraid.org

To see what ip address that routes to, bring up a terminal and do a
ping nomail.afraid.org

If you really want to give people a clue as to your actual address,
then use [mailbox]@hotmail.invalid. If it's a munged address, then
use .invalid as the top-level domain.

But seriously, if it's a hotmail account, why do you give a fuck if it
gets spammed? It's not like you use it for business. So just check it
once a week or so for genuine personal correspondence you might answer.

It's frightening I know, but people do use hotmail, gmail, aol and yahoo
for business.

My "important" e-mail address is a hotmai-i mean liv-erm now Outlook
e-mail account and I would not like to see it spammed. I use a web account
because it's not dependent on what ISP I use plus I can access it from
my phone.
