Fossil Free UCLA Presents: Do the Math Documentary Screening

It’s simple math: we can burn less than 565 more gigatons of carbon dioxide and stay below 2°C of warming — anything more than that risks catastrophe for life on earth. The only problem? Fossil fuel corporations now have 2,795 gigatons in their reserves, five times the safe amount. And they’re planning to burn it all — unless we rise up to stop them.

Do the Math is about the rising movement in the United States to change the terrifying maths of the climate crisis and challenge the fossil fuel industry. The film follows 350.org founder Bill McKibben on last November's Do the Math tour. The tour reached over 25,000 people at sold-out shows in 21 cities across the country (and tens of thousands more online). Part TEDTalk, part revival meeting, the Do the Math show is built off of an article called "Global Warming's Terrifying New Math" that Bill had published in Rolling Stone earlier in the summer. The piece became one of the most viral stories ever published by the magazine, garnering over 125,000 likes on Facebook and millions of page views.

The film made its premiere on Earth Night, April 21st, and will be screened across the country as part of a grassroots push this month. Please join Fossil Free UCLA for this educational and inspiring screening and learn how to get involved in the global movement!!!

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Hi there,

As the days pass we come closer and closer to the EPA public comment deadline (May 31st) and thus must share with as many people as possible the need to stand up against the proposed Pebble Mine!

People have the opportunity to help preserve these wildlands by writing a comment card directly to the EPA and we are looking for team players to help make this happen.

This is a great way for you to:
  • Gain experience working on a current environmental campaign
  • Add an impressive project to your resume
  • Develop relationships with professionals in the environmental space
  • Receive a letter of recommendation/add a reference to your resume
  • Network with other professionals, attend events, be creative

We want to customize this internship to work with your schedule so you can stay hyper local, and thrive within your community as much as possible. Of course there are opportunities to work with the team and help out at exciting events.

You can find attached more information on the internship as well as a brief fact sheet on this issue.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Julia
