Grooming dogs

Anybody have a clue on why some dogs (especially Eskies) will groom another. I have two "old men", the smaller of the two keeps the larger one's ears clean. Miracle will take on an older dog, keep it's eyes clear of drainage, clean another's ears, etc. I've heard that Keeshonden do this, but Eskies?

Sadie and Babie do this too.  They are poms.  Sadie would groom Bear (Eskie) and vice versa.
