Hi everyone on ESA SOCIS list,

as SOCIS is based on Google Summer of Code I would like to tell you that the student application period for Google Summer of Code (GSOC) is open now and you can now decide to spend you summer with two things you like, coding open-source software and aerospace. And the best thing is you will be paid for it. This GSOC our Constellation, a young academics group at the University of Stuttgart, was selected as one out of 177 organizations to take part in this great endeavor and we have several application ideas you can hack into.

All you have to do is visiting our GSOC page[0], select the idea you're most interested in (or propose your own one!) and apply for it until May 3, 2013.
We know that you can do that and we will mentor you to achieve the goal!

Our ideas are:
D1: Next Generation Distributed Super Computing - P2P-Science-Grid
A1: Solar System Grand Tour - One tour for one probe to all 8 planets and Pluto!
A2: Distributed Ground Station Network - Global Small Satellite Tracking
A3: Airborne Observatory Flight Route Optimization - Helping SOFIA by NASA/DLR to optimize their flight plans
C1: Visualization / Screensaver
C2: Space Top Trumps (educational game)
Xx: your project!

For further questions feel free to contact us or join our email-list[1].
Besides coding on great applications and getting paid we also offer you to help you publish YOUR work as papers for conferences and you will get a letter of recommendation afterwards (if you want to have one).

We know that you can achieve these tasks because they are interesting mixtures of aviation, astronautics, geodesy, informatics and math. And all of you had and have to deal with it in your daily course of studies at your university.

We hope to see you,
Best regards,

Andreas Hornig
