Hi all,
EPUBCheck 3.0 RC2 is now available from the download page [1]. Issues fixed are Issue 216 and forward in the list at [2] (revisions starting from r370 and forward [2b]).

If no further major issues are reported on this release, we will release 3.0 proper during the second half of December. Thanks to all that participated in testing and reporting on RC1, and a thanks in advance to those that help out taking RC2 out for spin.

Regarding required Java version: yes, the officially required Java version is now 6 or higher. Users who are stuck on Java5 might want to read the note at [3].

[3] Due to some changes in 3d party library dependencies between RC1 and RC2 however, it *might* be fairly straight forward to compose a backport to Java 5 for those that really need it. At this point, the only 3d party library that requires Java6 is Google Guava, which provides a 5 backport [4], and needed changes in the core EPUBCheck code are most likely not too many. Note however: the core EPUBCheck developers do not have time to spend on this work; those in need of a Java 5 version would have to do this on their own and maintain the result on a separate branch/project. Likewise, we make no guarantees that we will not add further Java6 code or 3d party libraries in the future, which may or may not have a Java5 backport available.
