Did you know that September 26 is World
Environmental Health Day? |
Since 2011, this day has served to raise
awareness of the environmental issues that most
impact public health. This year’s theme,
climate change challenges, time for
global environmental health to act in
unison, could hardly be timelier.
The rising global temperature isn’t just
worsening heatwaves and causing sea-levels to
rise, it’s also intensifying extreme weather
events, increasing the spread of infectious
diseases, and undermining access to clean air and
water and sufficient food around the world.
For these reasons and more,
it’s no surprise that the World Health
Organization claims, “Climate change is
the greatest threat to global health in the
twenty-first century.” |
What’s worse, children, the elderly,
communities of color, and those around the world
with modest incomes are often disproportionately
impacted by the climate crisis.
Letting this emergency go unaddressed
can’t be an option.
