Our planet is sounding the alarm. But Europe’s new leaders still aren't listening. This week, we have a top-secret plan to push them to take actions towards a Europe which protects the planet and is built on fairness. We can’t do it without your help! |
Hi,
I’d like you to imagine a massive alarm going off. Wherever you are right now -- home, work, on the train -- picture it. Ringing so loudly, you can’t hear yourself think.
Are you with me so far?
Now look around you. People going about their lives, ignoring the alarm, pretending not to notice the emergency. You want to take action, but you can't do it alone.
Now imagine this alarm is planet earth. And the ringing, her desperate cries for help.
Millions of Europeans are waking up to the climate emergency. But 27 key people are sleeping through that alarm, and refusing to acknowledge the emergency unfolding around us. These are Europe’s future leaders. At their helm, Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen. [1]
But they still have to be voted in by Members of the European Parliament, our representatives. This means they haven’t yet fully secured their power and this gives us a big opportunity to make them take action!
We have a top-secret plan to make our leaders hear us. If we succeed, we can push them to commit to fight climate change. All I can say for now is this: we are going to crash a key meeting about their future in Brussels this week. But to succeed, we need more resources for things like printing banners, contacting media, ensuring live coverage, etc. Pooling together what each of us can afford, a few euros here and there, will make this possible. So are you in?

Have you seen the images of Venice this week? The precious city is suffering the worst flooding in almost 150 years. [2] Venice is not the only city in crisis: climate change means the ice caps are melting, and sea levels are rising. [3] Across the world, floods and fires are rampant. The alarm bell is ringing louder than ever: our planet is shouting out for our urgent help.
Fortunately, it is still possible to avoid the worst effects of climate breakdown. But we only have about 11 years to do this. [3] Which means we need to start taking serious action now. Today.
Let’s not miss this opportunity to make sure our new European leaders recognise the climate emergency and get cracking on solutions. Europe’s new leaders need to be voted in by MEPs. And with our help, they can make sure the new European Commissioners will be climate leaders.
What do we want them to do? Two simple things: 1. Lower our targets to reduce greenhouse gas use, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement; and 2. put their money where their mouth is (at least €400 billion a year for a climate and energy transition).
Today we need you to help make some noise - with the money you can afford for climate action. Will you chip in to support this last-minute action?

WeMove Europe is striving for a future that puts people and planet first. For a community of people who hear planet earth’s alarm bells and make it louder, bringing our voices to where they need to be heard. We won’t stand by and watch the climate and planet collapse. Our action together, right now, can stop it.

Thank you for being part of it. I will write you more, as soon as we are closer to the action.
