all offshore wind projects. And he did it at
two donors' request.
This reckless and
corrupt decision threatens the nation's climate goals,
puts thousands of clean energy jobs at risk, and forces
states to rely on polluting fossil fuels to meet their
energy needs.
The consequences of Trump's
decision are dire. Climate change continues to
worsen every year, and humans are feeling the
intensifying effects through wildfires, hurricanes,
drought, heat waves, and more.
We absolutely must
prioritize switching to sustainable energy sources as
fast as possible. But instead,
Trump wants us to move backwards, further into the arms
of the oil and gas industries, further
committing us to their dirty and polluting
consequences.
States like New York and New Jersey
had set ambitious plans to transition to renewable
energy, relying on offshore wind to meet their targets.
New York alone planned to generate 9,000 megawatts of
offshore wind power by 2035 — enough to power millions
of homes with clean energy. Fully implementing offshore
wind projects along the East Coast would cut carbon
emissions by 50 million tons annually. This is the
equivalent of shutting down 131 gas-fired power
plants.
But two of Trump's wealthy donors, both
with interests in fossil fuels, didn't want offshore
wind farms near their
properties.
Congress must act immediately
to override this reckless decision and pass legislation
requiring offshore wind expansion. Sign this petition to demand
