The adoption of the new
Global Biodiversity Framework is an opportunity
for societies, businesses and policy makers to
rethink, reduce and reverse their impacts on
nature. Clear goals have been set to conserve and
restore 30% of land worldwide by 2030. The World
Climate Foundation is ready and strongly
positioned to help businesses, governments and
civil society to implement the Framework through
our World Biodiversity
Network.
Achieving the 23 Targets
of the Global Biodiversity Framework will
require structured top-down and bottom-up
consolidated action. Strong political commitments
are needed to oversee and achieve national
biodiversity strategies and action plans while
public and private financing must align with the
goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework - as
outlined in Target 14. Transparent reporting on
nature impacts, as specified in Target 15, will
also be essential.
Many existing national
policies resonate with the ambitious targets and
objectives of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
One good example is the European Green Deal that
includes the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030,
regulation on deforestation-free supply chains and
a global agreement on plastics aiming to support
the global shift towards a circular
economy.
These policies serve as
the foundation for businesses and society to
achieve a dual positive impact on climate and
nature. We support these policies and engage with
policymakers, such as the EU
Commission through World Biodiversity
Summit to highlight the best available policies
for guiding businesses towards a nature-positive
transition. | |
|
Although
challenges remain in achieving a nature-positive
economy, some businesses have made progress in
integrating climate and Nature-based Solutions
into their operations. For example, the renewable
energy sector is exploring ways to improve and
restore nature around photovoltaic fields with
agrivoltaic systems. This
trend demonstrates that a positive impact on
biodiversity can be achieved at the local level,
setting an example for industries to
follow. | |

The World Climate
Foundation's efforts to facilitate knowledge
exchange across sectors are aimed at scaling this
impact to a global level. Through our
international biodiversity platforms, we engage
industry players in alliances to promote this
cause.
Many of our
partners have demonstrated significant
progress and willingness in supporting natural
capital and the Global Biodiversity Framework in
their particular fields during COP15 and World
Biodiversity Summit.
To halt and reverse
the global biodiversity loss, we must
fundamentally rethink our relationship with nature
and transform our economic models and market
systems. Through the World Biodiversity
Network, we provide advisory support to our
partners to adopt and implement the necessary
reporting on the impact on biodiversity alongside
their supply chains and
portfolios. | |
|
World Biodiversity Network
is the world’s first cross-sectoral,
partnership-driven network focused on
biodiversity. It brings together corporate,
financial, institutional and media leaders, as
well as governments and policymakers to catalyse
the necessary partnership-driven solutions to
achieve the goals of the new Global Biodiversity
Framework.
Partners and members of the
Network will have access to our network consists
of government officials, policymakers, businesses,
asset owners and managers.
