Dear colleague,
The Renewables and
Other Power team at Global Energy Monitor is
pleased to announce the launch of our Global Hydropower Tracker, a
new resource for tracking the worldwide energy
landscape.
The dataset catalogs
2,212 GW of hydropower globally with nearly
4,000 projects of at least 75 megawatts (MW) or
larger under construction, announced, operating,
in pre-construction, or shelved. It includes
various technology types such as conventional
storage, run-of-river, and pumped storage
facilities. Non-comprehensive data is also
available for inactive plants: those which are
mothballed, retired, or canceled.
Check out the Global Hydropower Tracker on
the GEM website and download the data here.
Thank you so much
for your support — and thank you to our partners
who helped us bring this project to fruition. If
you have any questions or comments, please feel
free to email me directly.
P.S. Read our new
briefing titled, “Led by China, Eastern Asia alone
can meet key target for pumped storage,”
which details how a massive planned buildout of
pumped storage hydropower in Eastern Asia,
driven by China, would allow this region to
single-handedly meet the International Renewable
Energy Agency’s target of 420 gigawatts (GW) of
pumped storage worldwide by 2050.
