Dear Friend,
March 28, 2019 marks the 40th Annversary of the Three Mile
Island accident. It woke up millions to the dangers of nuclear
power and remains one of the largest nuclear disasters in the
world. But the terrible impacts of the partial meltdown,
explosion, and releases of radiation on communities around TMI
have always been downplayed, ignored, and simply covered
up.
Survivors and community members are gathering to
commemorate the accident over the next week, with events,
activities, and protests in Harrisburg, PA and the surrounding
area.
Join
us for a live national telebriefing to commemorate
TMI:
Wednesday, April 3 from 8-9:30pm
Eastern
(7pm Central / 6pm Mountain / 5pm
Pacific)
register.
We will have a full report on the anniversary events and
the legacy of TMI with three veterans of the front lines
of the nuclear disaster:
- Eric Epstein, Three Mile Island Alert -
grassroots organization founded two years before the
accident
- Aileen Mioko Smith, Green Action Japan -
co-author of Three Mile Island: The People's
Testament
- Arnie Gundersen, Fairewinds Energy Education -
nuclear engineer and expert on the TMI accident
The presentation will be followed by Q&A with the
audience.
Just
register on NIRS's website.
The event is free and open to the public, and we welcome
your questions, comments, and remembrances.
We aim for half presentation, and half questions and
comments. After you register, you will receive an email
message with the call-in number. This is a telephone event,
and you do not need a computer to participate. Long distance
phone call charges may apply.
If you are not able to join, we will have a recording
posted on our website the next day.
Thanks for all you do!
