Subject: [Foeegroups] overarching work on shaping new economies
FoEE is starting some exciting new overarching work on shaping new economies.
We aim to tackle head on, in a more direct way than ever, the mainstream global
economic model – the root of the multiple crises facing humanity and the living
planet.
This email is to tell you about the plan for this work and invite you to
participate in two upcoming participative webinars – on 31st March and 7th April
– to find out more and share your organisation’s work and experiences on this.
The person leading on this work from the FoEE office, with myself, is
Meadhbh Bolger (resource justice campaigner).
The plan for this work so far
The work cross-cuts all our issues as a network. It will contribute towards
our visions of system change, providing real solutions, resisting green growth,
building people power and more.
- What kind of economy and society do we need for a 1.5degree world?
- What kind of economy and society do we need for thriving biodiversity?
- What kind of economy and society do we need for equitable production and consumption systems within ecological limits?
- What kind of economy do we need for a truly democratic, caring society with wellbeing at the core?
Main aim for this year – is to develop a common FoEE vision and position on
economic paradigm shift. This will involve in-depth consultations with FoE
groups, sessions at the AGM in June, setting up a working group and talking to
many external networks and players for their input (already begun).
Further plans – we are involved in degrowth movement debates and are
organising sessions at the conferences in Vienna and Manchester. We have also
started to bring coherent messaging on the need to transition to a new economic
system into our narratives and political advocacy work (as you may have seen in
our European Green Deal messaging so far).
Webinars (and your interest to help organise)
We plan two participative webinars to have initial discussions, learning and
sharing on this work together as a network. There will be two dates offered
(with the same content) – Thursday 2nd April 11am-1pm (Brussels time) and
Tuesday 7th April 11am-1pm (Brussels time). Please fill in your interest here https://doodle.com/poll/9c2yptnn282kttzr We will send agenda

Help to organise the webinars – we know that many groups and people in the
network are already working a lot on these topics with a lot of experience so we
invite people who are interested to help organise the webinars to let us know –
please email myself and Meadhbh meadhbh...@foeeurope.org by Friday 13th March if you are
interested.

Finally, if you have any materials or positions already (internal or public)
on these topics (Including on economic system change / paradigm shift,
capitalism, degrowth, local solutions for new economies and societies etc.),
