Background
information: The Covenant of
Mayors for Climate and Energy is a
European initiative within which local, regional
and national authorities voluntarily undertake the
commitment to work together to achieve the climate
and energy objectives of the EU. Today, the
Covenant of Mayors has become the world’s largest
climate and energy initiative, bringing together
almost 7,500 signatory cities with a population of
more than 220 million people. 112 Ukrainian cities
have also undertaken voluntary commitments to
reduce the amount of CO2 emissions by
more than 30% by 2030, which is in line with
Ukraine’s commitments under the Paris
Agreements.
Ukraine has
joined the EU Sustainable Energy
Week for eight consecutive years.
This year it will be held from 3 June to 9
June and will be attended by
representatives of nearly 50 Ukrainian
cities. This is a large-scale event in
Ukraine designed to promote the dissemination of
best practices, inspire innovative ideas and join
efforts to meet the EU’s goals to combat climate
change, step up energy efficiency and energy
security, as well as sustainable community
development. |
