Fires at Europe’s largest migrant camp highlight how terrible conditions are for migrants. We’re sending an official complaint to the EU Commission showing that conditions are so bad that they’re illegal. Ensure they take legal action to stop these violations: |
Hi,
“Dad, we are cold. Why are we here and what will happen to us?'
“Dad” is Talibshah Hosseini, an artist who fled Afghanistan to protect his family from the Taliban. This was the question his daughters asked him, the day Europe’s largest refugee camp in Moria went down in flames and they had to sleep in a parking lot. [1]
Moria is a symbol of the EU's migration failure: it’s locking innocent people up in camps. A week after the fires, around 4,000 children were still homeless. [2]
Yet Commission President Von der Leyen has said “The images of the Moria camp are a painful reminder of the need for Europe to come together.” [3] Today the Commission even publishes its plans for a new migration policy. [4] But until we see real action, these are all just words.
So we’ve filed an official complaint, funded by thousands of WeMove members, asking the Commission to end the abuse against migrants and change any policy enabling it. [5]
The Commission often tries to kick the can down the road with these kinds of legal complaints because citizens are not normally involved and they don’t feel the pressure to act. This is why your voice will make all the difference and force the Commission to take it seriously. Will you sign?

PS: This is more than just the story of Greece. These are Europe’s refugee camps. We know the Commission is aware of what is happening and we want them to intervene. While violations in the complaint all involve Greece, migrant rights have been violated before in Hungary, allegations have surfaced in Italy, and could happen in Other in the future. [6]
