Foie gras is a
duck liver paté that is highly revered among foodies for its
rich taste and texture. But in order to produce this delicacy,
gruesome horrors are required. Locked in small cages where
they are unable to escape or even move, captive ducks are then
restrained while workers plunge a tube down their throats,
which will remain strapped to them for weeks. Then, farm workers shove up to 30 pounds of food
per week through the tubes, forcing the animals to gorge far
more than any duck would naturally
consume.
This force-feeding
causes some of the ducks to become so painfully swollen, they
can't even stand up. The practice is so
horrifying that several U.S. states and New York City have
already prohibited the sale of foie gras. But the larger New
York state has yet to ban this cruel item from restaurant
menus. In fact, Hudson Valley Foie Gras in New York is the
nation's largest foie gras farm. The company claims they use
best practices and are "concerned" for the animals' welfare
but there is no such thing as "ethical" versions of
foie gras. This animal torture must be banned immediately.
Sign the petition and tell New York lawmakers to outlaw foie
gras throughout the whole state!
Thank you for all that you do,

P.S. In order
to make foie gras, farmers force-feed ducks until their livers
painfully swell up to 10 times their normal size. Tell the state of New York to ban this torturous
"delicacy," now! |
