Africa Climate Week 2021: Get Involved!
The organizing partners of the  Africa Climate Week 2021 are accepting Expression of Interest submissions from stakeholders interested in joining the Virtual Thematic Sessions.

Organized in partnership by UN Climate Change, UNDP, UNEP and the World Bank, the Africa Climate Week Virtual Thematic Sessions are scheduled for 26-29 July and will be hosted by the Government of Uganda and open to the public.

Each of the Regional Climate Weeks provide a platform for engagement by national and subnational governments, regions, cities, indigenous communities, the private sector, and civil society. The Week is an opportunity to discuss implementing national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement and the regional collaboration that enables bold ambition on the way to COP 26 in Glasgow. This year, the Regional Climate Weeks focus on three themes:

  • National actions and economy-wide approaches – Discussion on ambitious action in key sectors and how these actions can integrate in national planning and economic packages to enable COVID-19 recovery and support the Paris Agreement.
  • Integrated approaches for climate resilient development – Collaboration to discuss the climate risks facing Africa, develop low-carbon solutions and seek partnerships for risk-based approaches to adaptation and resilience building.
  • Seizing transformation opportunities – A platform to explore breakthrough solutions to deliver climate action at a scale that puts Africa on a low-emission and highly resilient development pathway, with focus on key sectors of the economy that need deep transformation.

Join us by sharing an engaging video in the Action Hub, hosting a Side Event or as a Supporting Organization for one of the thematic tracks. Submit your Expression of Interest before the 21 June deadline.
How Do You See the Future of the Race to Zero?
You can share your views on the future of the Race to Zero campaign with the High-Level Champions for Climate Action, by attending the opening session and launch of the Public Consultation on the Future of the Race to Zero on 23 June. You can register for the event here. This session will start a 10-week period for receiving written feedback to consultation questions, which will be published soon after the event.

The consultation will explore how to drive cooperation and coordination within the climate action ecosystem to leverage the capacity and expertise of cities, regions, businesses, investors and civil society and ensure that commitments are fulfilled in the 2020s and beyond. It builds on a recent process to clarify and strengthen the Race to Zero's campaign criteria
Reminder: One Year Into the Race to Zero
Leaders Summit
A year after it launched, the Race to Zero now includes more than 2,300 companies, 700 cities, 160 investors and 24 cities, and is running in parallel with its new sibling campaign, the Race to Resilience. Both are helping to drive a 50 percent reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions between 2020 and 2030 - while restoring nature and building resilience for the 4 billion people most at risk from the climate crisis now.

But the private sector and local governments also need to join UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the High-Level Champions in calling for ambitious climate action. The UN Global Compact Leaders Summit starting tomorrow - 15-16 June - will look at the transformational shifts already underway and what is needed to accelerate them. Breakout sessions will focus on cities, transport, bridging the gap between mitigation and adaptation and engaging the youth, among other issues.
