Since 2020, the Kazakh-German University (DKU), within the framework of the Green Central Asia initiative, has organized the annual international Silk Road of Knowledge Conference. Over the years, the conference has brought together more than 2,000 participants and over 100 organizations, providing a unique platform for dialogue between policymakers, academics, technical experts, NGOs, and civil society representatives.

Science meets Policy: “Climate Mitigation and Adaptation in an Era of Social-Ecological Uncertainties”

September 20, 2025

Kazakh-German University (DKU), Almaty + online (hybrid format)

Objectives of the 2025 Conference:

• Share the latest scientific findings and innovations in water management, land use, agriculture, climate security, and energy transformation, with clear links to Phase II of the Green Central Asia (GCA II) initiative;

• Discuss science-based recommendations in support of political and economic strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation in Central Asia;

• Present integrated approaches to resilience-building in the context of growing socio-ecological uncertainties;

• Foster youth and women’s engagement in science and strengthen their role in policy-making;

• Produce concise policy briefs from each thematic session to enhance science–policy interaction in the region.

Thematic Sessions:

1. Glacier Monitoring and Modeling in Central Asia in times of climate change

2. Gender and Climate Change in Central Asia

3. Innovative Approaches in Hydrological Forecasting

4. Climate Impacts Online Tool for Central Asia

5. Empowering Drought Resilience in Central Asia: Hands-on Session on the Droughtmap-ASB Tool

6. Urban Climate Resilience: Sustainable Planning for Cities
