Background
This Committee meeting is the intersessional gathering of the inter-governmental body that reviews the progress countries are making in implementing the Convention. (Other Convention’s refer to these meetings as sessions of their subsidiary bodies).

The CRIC 19 will review the effective implementation of the Convention at national, subregional and regional levels. In February 2021, the affected country Parties organized on the basis of Convention’s regional implementation annexes from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Northern Mediterranean and Central and Eastern Europe, started holding preparatory meetings to prepare for CRIC 19.

However, participation in the media briefing is only accessible for bona-fide accredited to the session.

A UNCCD conference app is now available to download! It will be indispensable to all participants of the first-ever fully virtual gathering of the convention Parties, as well as covering media organisations. The app offers an easy gateway to the CRIC 19 conference schedules, access to all official documents, a daily journal summarising the events scheduled each day, and all other relevant information on the UNCCD process and conference logistics.

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is an international agreement on good land stewardship. Through partnerships, the Convention’s 197 Parties set up robust systems to manage land degradation and drought promptly and effectively. Good land stewardship based on a sound policy and science helps integrate and accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, builds resilience to climate change and prevents biodiversity loss. Land also plays a key role in the prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, securing rural livelihoods and creating green jobs, supporting community resilience and maintaining the sustainable delivery of ecosystem services.
