"The Green CA Strategy will be launched under the new EU CA Strategy. The kick off meeting is planned for end of January; I send you the program enclosed and the invitation with some information below. Let's see whether the German Foreign Office is interested in having a CSO feedback on the strategy development during the GA or in a discussion round before/after the conference at the German Embassy in Bishkek."

Best,
Olha

Dear Mr Rosenplänter,

Climate change is one of the key security challenges of the 21st century. Glacier melting, water scarcity and land degradation in Central Asia and Afghanistan have a negative impact on the population’s food security, destabilise the region and create pressure to migrate. Under the auspices of the Central Asia Water Initiative (the Berlin Process), the Federal Republic of Germany, working through the Federal Foreign Office, has endeavoured to address these risks since 2007.

The Federal Foreign Office invites you to join the launching of a new initiative – Green Central Asia – in Berlin on 28 January 2020. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will attend and address the audience.

The aim of Green Central Asia is to support Afghanistan and the countries of Central Asia in successfully meeting the challenges of climate change and cushioning the effects of the security risks these challenges pose. The idea is to help build up national capacities and academic expertise, as well as to develop strategies to curb the damage caused by climate change at the national and regional level. Green Central Asia is embedded in the EU Strategy on Central Asia, which was presented in Bishkek in early July.

To register for the conference, please complete the registration form on the conference website, where you can also find further information on the event.

We are looking forward to welcome you in the Federal Foreign Office on 28 Januar 2020.

Kind Regards

Federal Foreign Office
