UNDP joins environmental campaign Clean-Up the World! Clean-Up Georgia!




BORJOMI. 20 September 2013 – More than 200 kids in Borjomi, Tsaghveri and
Akhaldaba went out to the streets today to make their towns and villages
cleaner and greener.

For over a year, young people have been part of the youth eco-clubs
organized with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP) in Georgia to promote environmental education in schools.

With this clean-up action today, UNDP and the youth eco-clubs joined a
nation-wide campaign “Clean-Up the World! Clean-Up Georgia!” which is
rolling on in 63 municipalities across the country.

This is a national action under the global clean-up campaign initiated by
the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which usually takes place
in September and brings together around 35 million volunteers in 120
countries.

In Georgia, the clean-up campaign is organized by the NGO Consortium Greens
Movement of Georgia/Friends of Earth Georgia, Eco Vision – The Union of
Sustainable Development, and the Georgian Society of Nature Explorers
“Orchis”, with funds from the Swedish International Development Cooperation
Agency (Sida) and in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and
Natural Resources Protection of Georgia.
