“Clean Up Georgia-Phase III” Project - Waste and
Bioremediation Guidelines
NGO "Ecological Awareness and Waste
Management” produced another
manual/guideline, “Waste and Bioremediation”.
The brochure is prepared
within the framework of the "Clean up Georgia –
Phase III" project, the main
goal of which is to develop waste management
base, in accordance with modern
standards, by raising public ecological
awareness in Georgia.
The present publication is about the
problem of pollution of biosphere by
one of the toxicants of anthropogenic
origin – chlorine and its compounds.
Useful properties of chlorine as well
as potential threats, which may
endanger any living organism in the ambient
environment in case of its leak,
are reviewed in this
brochure.
The brochure aims also to increase ecological awareness
of the staff of
public schools and other educational institutions on the
necessity of safe
removal and utilization of obsolete, expired and unused
chemical substances.
In the second part of the publication,
contemporary prospects for overcoming
ecological crisis are considered –
economically profitable and ecologically
safe biotechnologies for cleaning
of water, air and soil polluted by
toxicants.
This
publication (that considers international experience and meets EU
requirements) can be used as a guideline during the preparation of waste
management plans by municipalities.
The project “Clean Up
Georgia-Phase III” is implemented by a Consortium of
NGOs “Ecological
Awareness and Waste Management”, Georgian Society of Nature
Explorers
“Orchis” and “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the
Earth -Georgia” with
the financial support of the Swedish Government.
