"24th
february": Cubans went to the polls on Sunday 24th
february to vote in a referendum about changing
the constitution. 86.85% of voters ratified the
document. Turnout was 84.4%

The
president Muhammadu Buhari won a second term,
with 56% of the vote. Nigerian election But
the opposition People’s Democratic party (PDP)
rejected the result and threatened to take legal
action, saying that the ruling All Progressives’
Congress had manipulated the vote.

The
first ever European Union - League of Arab States
(LAS) Summit took place on 24-25 February in Sharm
El-Sheikh, bringing together 49 countries, the
League of Arab States and the EU. The
President of the European Commission,
Jean-Claude Juncker, represented the European
Union at the Summit, alongside the President of
the European Council, Donald Tusk, who also
co-chaired with the Egyptian President Abdel
Fattah Al Sisi. The EU and the League of Arab
States reaffirmed that stronger regional
cooperation is the key to find common solutions to
common challenges. The Leaders also agreed on
a joint declatation
summarising the wide range of areas discussed.

The
United Nations World Food
Programme gained access to vital wheat
stoks in Hodeiah city. The mills contained 51,000
metric tons or a quarter of the agency’s
in-country stock - enough wheat to feed 3.7
million people for one month. WFP lost access
to the Red Sea Mills when intense fighting broke
out in Hodeidah city in early September

Yemen organised by the United Nations and the
Governments of Sweden and Switzerland, the donors
pledged US$2.6 billion to ensure that humanitarian
operations in Yemen can be sustained and scaled up
at a time when humanitarian aid is the only
lifeline for millions of Yemenis.
