When the weather starts to get really cold, you might hear someone say, “It’s freezing outside. So much for all that global warming, huh?” (Cue heavy sigh.)

Using cold weather as “proof” that the climate crisis isn’t real is a super popular denier talking point. So much so that comedian Stephen Colbert even once quipped, “Global warming isn’t real because I was cold today. Also, great news, world hunger is over because I just ate.”
While you might know this talking point is totally bogus, it can be a challenge to convey the difference between climate and weather without getting tongue-tied.

That’s why we created our latest free Climate 101 fact sheet, laying out the difference between these two phenomena.

Better yet, it’s short, sweet, and to the point – so the next time you need to share the facts, you’ll be ready.

And the facts are more important than ever.

When weather and climate get confused, it can be an easy excuse to kick the can down the road on taking action to end this crisis. While the weather might be cold or snowy on any given day, the science is clear: On average, our world is getting warmer and warmer over time. Our climate is changing and we need to act today to stop it.

We hope you find our free Climate 101: Weather vs. Climate fact sheet to be a useful resource.

Have an idea for a future fact sheet? Let us know – just respond to this email with your ideas. We’re all ears!
