Training and
competition for journalists “Climate Change and
Public Health”
Climate change is not a myth -
Avoid heat, which can increase the risks of diseases and deaths!
On January 21-22, 2017, in
Kakheti, NGO “EcoVision”
organized the training for journalists on the following topic “Climate Change
and Public Health.” The training was arranged within the framework of the
regional project “Climate Forum East II.” The local partner of the project
is the Georgian Red Cross Society. The regional project is coordinated by the
Austrian Red Cross. The project is financed by the EU and co-financed by the
Austrian Development Agency and Austrian Red Cross.
The training was attended by up
to 20 journalists from Tbilisi and regions. The meetings included presentations
by specialists who are working in the fields of climate change and media. The
following themes were presented during the training: “Climate change as a global
problem and its adaptation ways," "Climate change and public health in Georgia,"
"Red Cross and climate change" and "Media coverage of climate change and public
health issues ".
The training included
theoretical lectures as well as practical work. Within the working groups, the
journalists prepared media products on climate change and public health
issue.
There was also held a discussion
about different important issues related to climate change, such as legislative
gaps, problems of journalists during the making of media products, the roles of
media, government and society.
At the end of the training, the
journalists were rewarded with certificates. Within this project, after
trainings there was also announced a competition for media representatives from
Georgia. 4 winners of the competition will be revealed and will be awarded with
prizes.
