Dear friends,
This Saturday, leaders of the world's biggest nature conservation union are gathered in Rwanda for a major congress!

In a few hours, they could adopt a final declaration that will influence the future of key biodiversity negotiations this year. But insiders told us the current draft text has yet to recognize the need to conserve at least 50% of the planet -- what science says is crucial to stop mass extinction.

We only have a few hours to influence the negotiations -- and allies on the ground told us that massive public pressure coming from Twitter could be game-changing to ensure the global goal of 50% is alive, and indigenous rights are respected!

There's no time to lose! Use the button below to send your tweet -- let's fight for the planet!

Here are some tips on what to say:

  1. Dear @IUCN @APA_Congress leaders: it's urgent you include in the declaration the need to conserve at least 50% of the planet by 2030 #KigaliDeclaration #APAC2022 #NatureNeedsHalf
  2. Protecting half of the planet is possible, and is backed by science -- please ensure this vital goal is included in the final declaration of the #APAC2022!
  3. We must urgently protect half of the planet, and do so with full respect for Indigenous peoples’ rights, including their land rights. #APAC2022
  4. Even the IPCC calls for a global goal to conserve approximately 30% to 50% of Earth’s land, freshwater and ocean areas. Will you keep the 50% goal alive in the #KigaliDeclaration? #APAC2022
  5. A study from Sept 2020 states that at least 50.4% of the lands should be under some form of conservation. To truly follow the science, leaders of the @IUCN @APA_Congress must include the 50% global target in the #KigaliDeclaration #APAC2022
Already, more than 2.6 million Avaaz members have signed a petition to conserve half of the planet. Together, our voices create the pressure we need to influence governments’ decisions to protect life on Earth -- and now we have a unique chance to make sure this major conservation congress hears our call to protect half of the planet. Join now.

With hope and determination,

Diego, Oscar, Lilian, John, Emilio, Luciana and the rest of the Avaaz team
