Without
even knowing it, parents and caretakers in the U.S. have
been poisoning their babies — feeding them
lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium. In fact, a recent
study found that a full 95% of all baby foods on the
market in the U.S. are tainted with one of these toxins.
Even more horrifying, 25% of all baby food on U.S.
grocery shelves contain all
four of these dangerous heavy metals.
Why are baby food
manufacturers allowed to get away with this? If anything
should be more thoroughly regulated, surely it should be
the nourishment we feed our
children!
Researchers
have found heavy metals in all types of baby
food, from cereal and rice, to infant formula
and fruit juices. Things that happen during early
childhood development have lifelong effects on health
outcomes. Even tiny amounts of these toxic substances
can impact infants' and toddlers' cognitive functioning
and physical health — for life. The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) promised that, this year, it would
work on suggesting new limits on the amount of lead and
arsenic allowed in baby food. But we need it to take
action even faster: the FDA must crack down on
toxins in baby food immediately. We
cannot allow corporations to continue to poison
babies! Sign the petition
to demand
that the FDA take action now to safeguard the
health of our nation's
children!
