![]() With an ambitious proposal for a real Green Deal next week, we could start to halt the climate emergency. Help us to put pressure the European Commission! |
Hi,
This is HUGE. After years of pressure, the European Parliament has just declared a climate emergency. Even the newly elected President of the Commission has promised to make climate a priority in European politics!
This is the FIRST week of a five-year mandate for the European Commission, for its President - Ursula von der Leyen - and for its Vice-President - Frans Timmermans. Remember him? He’s the one who told us a few days ago: ‘Follow us with criticism, push us to go further and I will do everything I can to make this happen.’ [1]
Both have made big climate promises to get those top jobs in the European Union. They’ve got a deadline of one week to turn their promises into a proposal that can become official policy. Let’s keep up the pressure to make it a good one.
Politicians have a stronger incentive to set high-reaching goals when they feel pressure from citizens. If, in their first week at work, Timmermans and von der Leyen realise thousands of Europeans are watching, they’ll know they have to deliver on their promises next week. Would you join the petition and, after sharing it, send a direct message to Timmermans and von der Leyen?

This year has been a tipping point for action on climate change. Led by the youth, climate strikes spread over the globe. They were joined by many of us on the streets. Voters responded by coming out in record numbers for the European Parliament election this summer, with climate as a top priority. [2] Following protests inside the EU Parliament, a climate emergency has been officially declared.
If next week, politicians in charge of one of the most powerful institutions in Europe, those sitting at the top of the Commission, draft an ambitious proposal, we can start to halt the climate emergency by bringing the weight of the whole EU against it. But they must hear the uproar of people united, from all corners of Europe.
Will you join the petition and, after sharing it, send a direct message to Timmermans and von der Leyen?

Thank you for adding to the pressure,
David, Virginia (Madrid), and the entire WeMove Europe team
PS. Don’t forget to send a direct message either via email or Twitter after signing the petition. Showing our strength in numbers is very important, but gently reminding them of our demands is crucial to make Timmermans and von der Leyen feel the pressure. Please, join the petition and, after sharing it, send a message to the Commission!
