Georgian Youth Campaigns for Environment
TBILISI. 17 April 2013 – More than 100 school children from the Youth Eco
Clubs in Borjomi, Akhaldaba, Tsaghveri and Akhaltsikhe will take part in an
Earth Day campaign this year.
The young people will plant maples, limber and pine-trees in the yards of
their schools and will take care of the trees with assistance from
professional plant growers.
The campaign is organised by the United Nations Development Programme and
the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia as part of the initiative
to promote environmental education in schools.
A week-long campaign will bring together six Youth Eco Clubs established
with assistance from UNDP, and teachers and parents of the school children.
The Earth Day events will go on from 17 to 23 April:
17 April – tree planting in the Tsagveri kindergarten
18 April – tree planting in the Borjomi public schools #3 and #6
19 April – tree planting in the Borjomi public school #4
22 April – tree planting in the Akhaltsikhe Vocational Collage ‘Opizari’
23 April – tree planting in the Akhladaba public school
Representatives of UNDP, the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia,
Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the local governance in
Borjomi will join the school children on 23 April in Akhaldaba.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on 22 April all over the world to
support environment protection and green solutions in economy and everyday
life.
